A Reluctant Spirit: A Book by Kathleen Berry

Breaking free from fear: A spiritual path to peace

We live in Chicken Little times. The media, politicians and social media spread fear that the sky is falling. When you add your personal challenges to the mix, the fear you experience can be overwhelming.

But before you hunker down waiting for Armageddon, consider the alternative: rejecting fear and kindling your faith in a Higher Power.

Shedding fear is life-changing
Battling life-long illness once had me living small. I was terrified of what lay ahead for me. Disease had taken over the reins of my life; I felt powerless. But, once I started meditating and receiving Divine Guidance, I saw how fear made my life worse. I saw myself as more expansive and found ways to overcome my limitations.

I no longer allow fear to limit me.

Reasons not to buy into fear
Fear keeps you down, paralyzing you into inaction. You may say, “What’s the point in trying when times are so hard?” Here’s why I challenge you to free yourself from fear’s prison:

  • Fear and worry will always take you to the worst-case scenario. Don’t trust what fear tells you.
  • Fear fosters worry and worry stagnates your growth. Once you convince yourself that the future is scary, you stop living in the present and cease working toward your goals.
  • Fear blocks your ability to receive divine guidance. Fear and faith can’t coexist. By siding with fear, you’re essentially second-guessing and rejecting the Most Loving.
  • Fear muddies your judgment. It consumes too much bandwidth in your brain, leaving little room to consider your options. You suspect others’ intentions and blame them for your troubles. You’re more likely to ignore the humanity in others.

Shift your mental script from fear to faith
The Most Divine’s love is unconditional. Pray and welcome the Creator into your life. Listen and act on Divine Guidance. Pass your burdens onto the Most Loving.

This doesn’t mean life will be easy or that you’ll never experience difficulty. Learn that trials expand your soul and being in ways that ease cannot. Ask yourself:

  • “How has overcoming past challenges improved my life?”
  • “What is there to fear when I learn from my bad choices or challenges?”
  • “Since God’s love for me is more powerful than any earthly love, why should I question the Divine’s means to get me where I need to be?”

When you lose something—whether through chronic illness, job loss, relationship breakups—it makes room for new opportunities and encourages you to consider a different path. In your discomfort, you more fully appreciate what you’ve had, so when it’s returned to you (perhaps in a different form), you’ll be more grateful for it.

Your own Divine Team (angels, guides and crossed-over loved ones) stands ready to assist you. Recognize that you’re never alone in your struggles or your victories. No heavenly request is too small or too large, as long as it serves your higher purpose.

Please don’t allow fear to keep you in darkness. You deserve so much more.
