If your prayer is just a list of requests, you’re missing out on the transformational power of this practice. When approaching the Creator with a full heart, you express your intention to live authentically and in a loving manner that’ll enrich your life.
Here are four tips to elevate your experience.
Release your expectations.
The most effective prayer doesn’t impose limits on how the Most Loving should work in your life. Only God knows what you’ll need in the future, as well as the skills and life experiences that’ll lead you in the direction you’re meant to go. As for me, my prayers have been answered in unexpected ways, leading me to experiences I could’ve never imagined.
Praying in general, instead of specifics, demonstrates your trust and faith in the Creator, rather than controlling the course of events. Here are some examples:
- You’re lonely. Instead of asking for a relationship with a specific person, request that more love enters your life. Ask for help to spread divine love to others. You attract love when you’re living in love.
- You can’t make ends meet. Instead of pleading for a high-paying job, ask for one that feeds your soul; a job you’d enjoy that provides for you financially.
- You’re chronically ill. Instead of asking for complete healing, ask for opportunities to improve your quality of life.
Come to prayer prepared.
Try chanting, singing sacred songs or spending time in quiet contemplation to focus and open your heart. This helps you enter prayer in gratitude, serenity and vulnerability: mindsets that honor the Divine.
Pray for others in a way that doesn’t interfere with their free will.
When you pray for something the other person doesn’t want, you go against their free will. What’s the issue with this? For one, when you do this, you elevate yourself over that person, believing you know what’s best for them. Two, their free will overrides your prayer request.
Free will is an amazing gift where you have control over your life, including the decisions you make and the actions you take.
If someone hasn’t asked you to pray for them, pray not for their situation, but for their overall well-being. Request that they become aware of the divine love enveloping them and ask that their mind be cleared so they can make the best decisions to overcome their obstacles.
Pray in a way that aligns with Divine energy
You’re a soul living in the physical realm. Requests for fame, wealth or power over another are never answered, as these prayers are worldly and don’t align with the heavenly realm.
Here are other ways to align your prayer with Divine energy:
- Never pray for someone to suffer. The Most Divine discards all requests that arise from anger or selfishness. Only prayers steeped in love, gratitude and wonder reach the Most Loving.
- Pray in gratitude.
- Pray in a way that uplifts others.
- If you’re committed to doing good, ask to be a vessel for the Divine to work through you.
- Allow your prayer to be fluid.
- Pray when it occurs to you.
- Pray in joy. Celebrate the Creator.
Pray in a way that’s authentic to you. Whenever you pray from your heart, you will be heard.
