From a young age, we find that life in the physical world is not always fun. We’d forgotten why we came here: growth, soul expansion and learning to love in an imperfect environment. This amnesia leads us to adopt material priorities such as competition, judging others and “looking out for number one.”

The problem is this mindset starves our spiritual selves, leaving us empty and unfulfilled. When we rediscover why we are here, we shift our mindset from the material to the spiritual. We recognize our time on Earth is brief compared to our overall existence. This fosters an appreciation that our time here is precious.

So, how do we make this shift and move away from the “this is all there is” rut? We do this by paying attention to our spiritual side and balancing our physical needs with our spiritual ones. We acknowledge that there’s an entity bigger than us. And, we learn to love in all situations, especially when hate is prominent.

Shift your perspective with these six tips

  • Accept the reality that you will face tremendous obstacles. Find ways to use these difficult times as a catalyst to expand your soul.
  • Welcome the Most Loving to work within you. Express a desire to receive divine guidance. When you set your heart with this intention, you’ll quickly increase your gratitude, decrease your loneliness and discover the strength to move forward.
  • When you receive unexpected insights, pay attention and act on them. You can recognize a divine message as it comes from a loving standpoint; one that bolsters you emotionally, but never elevates you over anyone else.
  • Love in all situations, especially when someone is unkind. When you’ve been hurt so badly that you can’t muster love, ask the Most Divine to use you as a conduit for love to be sent to that threatening person, group or even government. Avoid responding with anger or hatred as it will take hold within you. Prevent others’ negativity from lowering your energy and turning you bitter.
  • Foster a connection to all creation. Everything you do impacts everything around you. Your actions. Your thoughts. Your words. Your emotions. Don’t use people or nature for your own interests. Recognizing how closely related we are to everyone and everything (we’re all created by the Most Loving’s divine spark) increases your respect for people as well as your love and wonder for the natural world.
  • Be true to yourself. Don’t dim your light to make others happy. Instead, shine your brightest by being authentic and pursuing your natural talents. Never take on guilt for being joyful. Live in a way that inspires others to do the same.

Life is about the experiential, not the material
When it’s time to return to our spiritual home, let’s know we did our best and honor the times we’re able to rise above. When we ascend to the heavens, we take the lessons we’ve learned and all the love we’ve received throughout our lifetime. We treasure our meaningful relationships as we are forever bonded to them through our shared time together.
